Zika Virus (Flavivirus), animation
An animation of the Zika virus, a mosquito-borne virus that is a member of the Flavivirus genus. The virus is responsible for Zika fever, an illness that causes symptoms similar to dengue fever including fever, rashes, joint pain, and conjunctivitis. However, women who are infected with the virus while pregnant are at risk of giving birth to children suffering from microcephaly, a neurodevelopmental disorder resulting from a reduced head size.
